How veneers change your face
Veneers can subtly change how your face reads. Slightly longer or more forward front teeth give the upper lip more support, which can make it look fuller. Correcting a narrow smile can make the cheeks look more lifted. Because of this, lip filler planned before veneers may end up looking like too much once the new teeth are in. It's one of the main reasons dental work comes first.
The right order: teeth first, then face
The general sequence we recommend:
Dental records and smile design. A 3D scan and photos set the target shape of the teeth.
Veneer preparation and bonding. At Éclat, porcelain veneers are completed in two visits, typically within 48 hours.
Healing and bite check. Gums settle and swelling from dental work goes down.
Neuromodulators. Botox® or Dysport® for crow's feet, forehead lines, frown lines or a gummy smile.
Dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvéderm® or Restylane® for lips, nasolabial folds or cheeks, placed once the smile is final.
How much time between dental work and fillers
This is where careful planning pays off. Dental procedures stretch the lips and cheeks, involve local anesthetic around the mouth, and briefly introduce bacteria into the bloodstream. For these reasons, many injectors prefer a gap of up to two weeks between significant dental treatment and fillers around the mouth, to reduce infection risk and keep fresh filler from being pushed out of place.
Botox® is more flexible. Because it's injected into muscle and is not a volume product, it's often done after veneer bonding in the same trip. You just need to avoid pressure and massage on the treated areas for the first day.
The best spacing for you depends on how much dental work you're having and where the filler will go. Filler in the cheeks or temples, well away from the mouth, is often easier to schedule close to dental work than lip filler.

Recovery and downtime for each step
After veneers, expect some cold sensitivity and slight gum tenderness for a few days. After Botox®, small bumps at injection points fade within an hour, and results appear over 3 to 14 days. After fillers, swelling and occasional bruising are normal for 2 to 7 days, especially with lips, so avoid scheduling filler right before an important event or photos.
Who should wait
Fillers and neuromodulators aren't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, during an active cold sore or skin infection, or right before a long-haul flight if you're prone to swelling. Tell your provider about any blood thinners, supplements such as fish oil or vitamin E, and previous filler or allergy history.
